Town of Isère, in region Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, Saint-Laurent-du-Pont takes place about thirty kilometers from Grenoble, near Chambery. It is located near the gorges Guiers Mort, the Chartreuse mountains, on the border of the Savoie department.
Inhabited since the Middle Paleolithic, as evidenced by the habitat remains found there, the territory of Saint-Laurent-du-Pont then develops in the Gallo-Roman period. Mainly rural, the city of the Pre-Alps experiencing significant growth in the eleventh century with the establishment of a monastery of Carthusian monks.
