Listed as an historic monument, the Saint-Julien church of Saint-Julien-de-Lampon, in the Dordogne, is a magnificent 12th century building which was formerly dependent on the abbey of Vigan.
Covered in slates from Corrèze, it underwent a major transformation in the 16th century with the addition of two wall chapels, then in the 19th century with the addition of two new communicating chapels.
Inside, visitors will appreciate the 16th century wall paintings on the vault of the choir, depicting in particular a barefoot angel symbolizing Saint Matthew or even Christ in Majesty blessing the world.
