Oiron:

Listed as an historic monument, Oiron Castle was built in the 16th century. Former property of the Gouffier family, one of whose members would have inspired the famous Marquis de Carabas to Charles Perrault. The latter was also at the origin of the beginning of the art collection exposed to the castle. This tradition has continued, and one can admire here a large collection of contemporary art. In the park, also open to the public, we also discover works scattered everywhere, while admiring the facade of this edifice finesse. In the left wing, do not forget to admire the large 55-meter painted gallery that traces the ancient cycle of the Trojan War and the Aeneid in fourteen scenes.

Also classified as an historic monument, the Saint-Maurice collegiate church dates from the 16th and 17th centuries. Located near the castle, it houses many works, including funerary slabs classified as Historical Monuments as objects.

The church Saint-Martin-les-Baillargeaux takes place in the former village of Noizé. Built between the tenth and eleventh century, it has also been classified as an historic monument. Isolated, in the middle of the fields, it owes its unusual position to an epidemic of black plague having decimated all the surrounding inhabitants. The old town also has a 19th century village church and a dolmen, the Stone Pineau, listed historical monument.

In the old village of Bilazais, you can admire the church Sainte-Radegonde and its choir of the twelfth century.

The Oiron Park is very popular for walks as well as for its interesting flora.

Former, the village of Taizé-Maulais hosts on its territory the most important megalithic site of all the Deux-Sèvres. You can admire a tumulus and several dolmens, including that of the place called La Pierre levée, listed historical monument.

Several churches also take place in the different villages that form Taizé-Maulais, like that of Notre-Dame in Taizé, that of Saint-Pierre in Maulais, or the chapel of Maranzais. All quite old, they reveal a typical architecture of this part of New Aquitaine.

Walking through the ancient villages of the different villages of Taizé-Maulais, you can enjoy an old noble house, or the seat of the battle between Angevins and Poitevins in 1033, on the hill of Montcoué. Three crosses were erected to testify to this historic event.
