Medieval village of Gard, Occitanie region, Saint-Jean-de-Valériscle takes place not far from the Cevennes, at the confluence of the Ardeche and Lozere. It is located about sixty kilometers from Nîmes and its famous bullring, in the heart of the agglomeration of Alès.
The story of Saint-Jean-de-Valériscle begins with prehistory, as evidenced by the various remains found on site. Later Gallo-Roman city, the village will be turned for a long time to agriculture and notably recognized for the quality of its onions. It was not until the 19th century that it developed a sericulture and coal extraction activity.
Today, the village has mainly turned to tourism, but also the production of an olive oil very popular in the region. One can still admire beautiful architectural elements throughout the old town.
