- Developed on the left bank of the Verdus stream, the medieval village of Saint-Guilhem-le-Désert stretches out into the Gellone valley; it is the starting point for many hikes. Its remarkable Romanesque facades, the remains of a medieval wall and its Gellone abbey make it a remarkable site in Languedoc. The village is registered with the association of the most beautiful villages of France, the abbey of Gellone and the bridge of the Devil are registered with the world heritage of the Humanity by UNESCO under the ways of St Jacques de Compostelle.
- 5 municipalities are currently located within a "Grand Site de France" labeled perimeter. As part of the renewal, from 2018, this perimeter will be extended to all of the Hérault gorges.
