The Friends of Old Saint-Etienne museum was located at Saint-Étienne, in the Loire. Founded in 1930 by the eponymous association, it was housed in a 17th century private mansion, rue Gambetta.
In 2010, a new association called "History and Heritage of Saint-Etienne" took over. However, due in particular to financial constraints, the association decided in 2018 to close the museum. The collections were then transferred to the Museum of Art and Industry (MAI), Saint-Étienne, located on Place Louis Comte.
The collection of the Friends of Old Saint-Etienne museum came from bequests and consisted of numerous objects, archives, postcards, plans, books and documents related to the heritage and history of the town and its surroundings. Within the MAI, it remains an entity in itself, the rest of the establishment presenting the industrial history (cycles, weapons, ribbons) and artistic (decorative arts) of the capital of Forez...
