Located 3 km from Condé-sur-Noireau and 16 km of Thury-Harcourt. Formerly it was part of the canton of Condé-sur-Noireau, it is today part of the Thury-Harcourt but it is nevertheless part of Condé Intercom.
The name comes from Saint Denis, who was born in Italy, where he was ordained priest and bishop. "Mere" comes from the Latin Mercatum meaning "market". The story goes that the lord of Saint-Denis Radulph had a right to fair, which took place the day we celebrated the saint. He had played and lost against the fair lord de Beaumanoir to Montilly-sur-Noireau. Every year a fair is held in Montilly-sur-Noireau the feast of St. Denis on October 9. Residents are Mérois.
