The House Carrère is located rue de Paris, in the center of Saint-Denis on the island of Reunion.
First simple wooden house built in the 1820s, with a ground floor, topped by a roof with four breakthrough framed skylights and including outbuildings in a backyard, it was acquired in 1905 by a sugar merchant, Raphaël Carrère, who moved there with his family and proceed to work in 1908 (adding a floor, new facade, new portal).
Listed on the Inventory, symbolizing both the Creole houses such qu'aménagées by colonial families and urbanization of this prestigious artery of the city (Paris Street), the House Carrère was acquired by the communities and houses now the Tourist Office of the Beautiful North Country.
Two permanent exhibitions are presented, one evoking the art of living in the nineteenth century Creole bourgeois street and the second dedicated to domestic life in the ancient Creole villas.
Also visible movable and antiques. Temporary exhibitions are also planned, and contemporary artists know is highlighted.
