The Garden State is located Saint-Denis on the island of Reunion.
It was created in 1767 under the name Jardin du Roy, and was first funded by the East India Company.
Comprising an acclimatization garden with trees and outdoor spice island, it is also home from a 1855 natural history museum.
Passionate botanists and reputed to have been the origin of the wealth of its collections, like Pierre Poivre.
In the early nineteenth century, the garden has 2,000 species of plants (trees, flowers, spices...).
The state has kept garden pedagogical vocation: the document identifies fifty species of rare trees including talipots (that bloom only once before dying) or baobabs.
The site is also dedicated to the promenade and a playground there was fitted with jets of water directed through the lighting. Space is also reserved for exhibitions and another can accommodate performances (theatrical concerts and animations).
