Saint-Cyr-les-Colons is a town in the Yonne in Burgundy, Franche-Comte, 17 km southeast of Auxerre.

Vast nearly 35 square kilometers, ranging from 153 to 345 meters, the territory of the city is at the crossroads of the famous vineyards of Chablis, Auxerrois and Irancy. Green and hilly, it includes a small village with houses grouped around its church and several hamlets.

Rural and bucolic, the town on which are implanted convenience several renowned wineries, even if it is not included in any name, takes advantage of its geographical position.

Things to see and do

His church dedicated to St Cyr and his mother St. Julitta, two martyrs who were highly revered in the region, reveals the heritage jewel of the town. It dates from the twelfth century, built on a site that had been occupied since the seventh century by a monastery under St. Germain Abbey Auxerre. The twelfth century were preserved the nave and choir of pure Romanesque style, as evidenced by arched windows, and capitals with vegetal decoration beautifully made. In this period were also preserved defensive elements, the village then being strengthened: thus notices a stunner at the front. In the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries, the building was equipped with a Gothic transept and side chapels. Renovated in the eighteenth century, protected as historical monuments, the Saint-Cyr-et-Sainte-Julitte benefits since 2002 of restoration campaigns. A stained glass renovation project has also been initiated.

It also houses furniture and works classified: a processional cross in silver and gilded wooden altar of the eighteenth, stone sculptures representing the Virgin and Child and St. Julitta (XVII), wooden statues and sculptures included St. Cyr and Christ (XVIII) or a crucifix in ivory and wood (XVII).

In the village, we also observe old houses with typical architecture of Burgundy and some said elements of small heritage, as a well-preserved washhouse.

Next up to pleasant walks, including cultivated areas but also woodlots of Provenchère and St. Cyr. Routes can obviously lead to the hillsides of neighboring Saint-Bris-le-Vineux, Préhy or Chablis.
