The Avelines museum is located in the town of Saint-Cloud, in the Hauts-de-Seine, southwest of Paris.
Located rue Gounod, the establishment is housed in a villa built in the 1930s for the collector Daniel Brunet. The building was designed to highlight the works collected by the owner. The architect Mourot thus imagined a villa made up of two wings connected by a vast atrium equipped with a rotunda overhanging the ground of 15 m, being inspired by the villa Kerylos in Beaulieu-sur-Mer. The whole evokes by its proportions "a small white house".
Acquired by the city, the site houses the Museum of History and Fine Arts in 1988. Renovation work was carried out there in 2008, the visit route being reviewed and the museography modernized.
The museum offers a journey in paintings, engravings or photographs, but also objects and furniture, dedicated to the great moments and celebrities that have marked the past of the city like that of France (the castle of Saint-Cloud was the residence of the brother of king then of the two emperors Napoleon).
The collections are made up of several funds. In 1927, Charles Pierre Léon Maindron (1861-1940) sold 2660 items (engravings, photos, remains of the castle).
In 1969, the writer and musician Charles Oulmont (1883-1984) donated part of his collection consisting of 52 works (paintings, sculptures, furniture, drawings and works of art) from the 18th and 19th centuries centuries. There are paintings by Camille Pissarro (1830-1803), Antoine Vollon (1933-1900) and Eugène Carrière (1849-1906).
Since then, the fund has grown through new acquisitions.
Workshops, conferences and temporary exhibitions are regularly programmed. The visit includes the gardens of the villa.
