Saint-Chély-d'Apcher, lozerian town of about 4,800 inhabitants, is a town located in the former province of Gevaudan, between the Monts de la Margeride in the East and the Monts de l'Aubrac in the West, a hilly and covered area of wood and heathland, marked by granite. Its altitude is 1000 m. Open door to the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes and Occitanie regions, it is located at the crossroads between the departments of Cantal, Haute-Loire and Aveyron.
The municipality extends over 286 hectares on either side of the A75 motorway, a road axis representing one of the pillars of the growth of Saint-Chély-d'Apcher, with the installation, more than a century ago, of the factory today ArcelorMittal.
Former stronghold of the barony of Apcher, the city was the seat of a major battle during the famous Hundred Years War. Besieged by the English in 1363, Saint-Chély-d'Apcher preserved from this time its gentile. Today, this city of Lozère is especially appreciated for its calm, as well as for its interesting cultural heritage.
