The Sainte-Eulalie church is located in the commune of Saint Aulaye-Puymangou, in the Dordogne department, 18 km southwest of Ribérac.
The building dates from the 12th century and then served a priory.
In the Saintongeais Romanesque style (we are on the edge of the Charente...), the facade, the front choir, the bell tower and the apse have remained original.
We note that during restorations carried out in the 19th century, an aisle was added to the south, the nave of two bays being covered in a semi-circular barrel.
The bell tower for its part is equipped with a defensive system, which is logical due to the geographical location of the old bastide and the Hundred Years' War which raged. A staircase at the level of the pillar provides access to the military posts...
The facade and the capitals present in various places of the building are remarkable: they represent grotesque characters, monster fights, birds, but also interlacings.
These preserved decorations from the Romanesque period and the overall beauty of the church which still surrounds the cemetery justified its inclusion in the Inventory.
A visit is essential during a stopover in this village of character.
