Small village of more than 700 inhabitants, Saint-Anthème takes place in Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, in the department of Puy-de-Dôme. Close to the town of Ambert, known for its cheese, it is also located in the heart of the Livradois-Forez Regional Nature Park. Nearby, the Forez mountains dominate it at over 1,600 meters above sea level.

Saint-Anthème was born in the eleventh century around a priory dedicated to Saint Anthème himself, former bishop of Poitiers of the 4th century. A green resort with an ecotourism label, the former rural village has developed a tourist ambition since the second half of the 20th century. In addition to its important architectural heritage, Saint-Anthème also has a family ski resort and modern.

Things to see and do

The Prabouré alpine ski resort is located in the town of Saint-Anthème. Installed between 1248 and 1377 meters above sea level, it has no less than seven downhill trails suitable for all levels. Cross-country skiing enthusiasts can also indulge their passion on the slopes of the Nordic site of Crêtes du Forez. For several years, the outdoor activities resort has also offered a great range of summer activities: giant zip line, hike-ferrata, course in the nets but also downhill scooters, moutain kart and a panoramic tower to observe the surrounding landscape. then descend via the longest dry toboggan in France!

In summer, the Saint-Anthème leisure center will allow you to indulge in swimming, canoeing and also pedalos! Games for children are also installed there, and it is possible to picnic with family or friends.

Inside the village, there is no shortage of architectural sites to discover, such as the Saint-Blaise church. Neo-Gothic in style, it is entirely in granite and lava stone from Auvergne. Built at the end of the 19th century, it replaces the old priory church dating from the 12th century. Inside, it is still possible to admire two original sculpted stones connected by curtain walls.

In the neo-Romanesque style of Auvergne, the Saint-Just chapel was built at the very end of the 19th century. You can see a statue of Notre-Dame-de-Bon Rencontre and admire an alternation of colors in the stones chosen for the construction.

In the old town, you can admire some old medieval houses and fountains. The only vestige of the old castle, a Renaissance portal still stands proudly. You will also not fail to appreciate the beauty of two 18th century houses, one of which is now used as a doctor's office.

Small 16th century building, the stronghold of Chalard, according to local legend, welcomed King Louis XV during one of his trips to Auvergne. Next to it, you can still see an old castle mound.

A former farm, the Jasserie du Coq Noir ecomuseum allows visitors to discover life in Saint-Anthème and in the region in recent centuries.

Private property, the Château de la Roue still has a high keep surrounded by a defensive wall. Abandoned in the last century, it still stands in the heights of the village.

Several marked hiking trails allow you to discover the local flora and fauna, as well as the most beautiful tourist sites in the area.

Events and festivities

The market is held on the second and fourth Tuesday of each month, in the morning. A Christmas market also takes place at the end of the year.

Every first Sunday in May, the festival of daffodils and daffodils is an opportunity to attend several events.

The Saillante meetings in July allow you to attend exhibitions, clown or puppet shows, concerts or even a ball.

At the beginning of September (or end of August), the patronal feast of the village is the scene of fireworks, a fun fair, a ball, a torchlight retreat or even a petanque competition. At the beginning of September, place at the fair of the Cross and its animations.
