Coly-Saint-Amand

Considered the most beautiful fortified church in Dordogne, the abbey church of Saint-Amand-de-Coly dates back to the 12th century. Rebuilt largely between the 19th and 20th centuries, the church takes its place on the remains of the abbey. One can appreciate the integrations of Gothic elements in this building of Romanesque style, as well as the enclosure of ramparts. The whole has been classified to Historic Monuments. Guided tours are organized on a regular basis.

Built between the 14th and 16th centuries, the Chateau de la Grande Filolie is now listed as a Historic Monument. Private property, it takes its name from an old oil mill that once stood on the site. Here you will discover lava roofs and machicolation towers. It can notably be observed from the path of the forest domain, a very beautiful walk.

The village still has an old poor hospital built in the 14th century and renovated in the 18th century.

Walking through Saint-Amand-de-Coly you will appreciate the local architecture and the houses in Sarladine stone and lauzes, all in gray and ocher colors very warm. Marked hiking trails are also available in and around the village, and guided tours of the center are offered.

In April, Saint-Amand-de-Coly offers a pancake party with entertainment.

On the 14th of July Saint-Amand made his Interesting. This cultural event highlights street arts with different shows, improvisations and artistic happenings.

The village festival takes place every year on August 15th with a ball, a dance, a rally or even shows.

• What if it was all a story of limestone deposits and erosion ? - An exhibition conceived and produced by the Pôle d'Interprétation de Préhistoire des Eyzies on the theme of minerals, omnipresent in the Vézère valley, where they are intimately linked to human history : natural habitat, material for the first tools, support for the first works, building material, scenic backdrop ? For thousands of years, it has undergone constant transformation, reinventing this unique landscape. - On display are images taken during recent photographic campaigns carried out by the heritage and inventory department of the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region.

• Guided tour - The château-abbatial de Coly is closely linked to the history of the abbey of Saint-Amand de Coly. Overlooking the village, it is now divided into two parts : one communal, welcoming groups for annual excavations, and the other private, including the former abbey dwelling - Free - This is an outdoor event, with no possibility of retreating indoors in case of bad weather. In the event of rain, the activity will continue. In this case, please bring rainwear and an umbrella. - The meeting point is in the parking lot beneath the Coly town hall. Here you'll find the war memorial and an old telephone booth converted into a book box. - The visit will last between 1h and 1h30, depending on the questions and the people available to take part.
