Commune of the Drome, in Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, Saillans is located fifteen kilometers from Crest, and forty-five kilometers from Valence, between the Vercors and Drome Provencale. Located at the foot of the Trois Becs massif, it is the gateway to the Diois, the Drôme Prealps.
Populated since antiquity, as evidenced by the remains found on the spot, the territory of Saillans develops in the course of the Middle Ages. Mainly agricultural at the time, with the breeding of ewes and cows, vineyards and wheat cultivation, the town enjoyed significant prosperity in the sixteenth century. Known for its trade in wood and cloth, and for its viticulture, it is then strongly struck by the pangs of the wars of Religion.
Become tourist, the town of Saillans presents in particular an important choice of activities of full nature, as well as an interesting architectural heritage.
