Ruages comes from the Latin Roburia which means oak forest oak.
Ruages is a small village in the commune of Bourgogne-Franche-Comté in northeastern France. It includes 5 hamlets, Cropigny, Le Maréchal, La grange du Bois, La Brosse, Mont. Between the Yonne valley, the Canal du Nivernais and the Morvan heights, the commune of Ruages is 50 km from Auxerre, 130 km from Dijon and 200 km from Paris.
Small village located on the road to Santiago de Compostela, 9 km from Tannay and 7 km from Corbigny, close to the Morvan gates, near the Canal du Nivernais and Vézelay. The inhabitants of Ruages are Ruisseois and Ruageoises. The municipality is labeled 2 Fleurs aux Villes and flowery villages of less than 500 inhabitants.
On its 1030 ha, the commune counts 270 ha of communal forest. The basin of life of Ruages is Corbigny. Ruages is part of the Community of Communes Tannay-Brinon-Corbigny which has about 10,500 inhabitants, spread over 58 municipalities.

A little history... In 1650, Paul Goussot is prior of Ruages. In 1659, Etienne Bargedé is lord, and prior of Ruages. From 1905 to 1912, Augustin Guillerand (1877-1945) was parish priest of Ruages, before entering the Carthusian monastery of La Valsainte, of which he became the prior.
