Listed as a Historic Monument, the Saint-Pierre de Royan church was founded in the 11th century, making it the oldest monument in this commune of Charente-Maritime. Many times transformed over the centuries, this building, mixing Romanesque and Gothic, reveals to its visitors a flat chevet from the 13th century, a rectangular apsidiole serving as the base for a square Romanesque bell tower raised in the 18th century.
Partly destroyed during the bombardments of the Second World War, the Saint-Pierre church in Royan was rebuilt in the second half of the 20th century, now revealing a much more sober façade.
