The Saint-Pierre-du-Châtel Rouen is located in the historic center of the city, Camille Saint-Saens Street.
Its name is due to its proximity to the site of the castle of the first Earl of Normandy. It was built in the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries on the foundations of a chapel of the tenth century.
Flamboyant Gothic style, particularly with two aisles and a roof whose wooden roof was exquisitely carved, the church was also equipped with a bell tower on top of which were affixed eight statues of prophets who were sawed and filed in 1922, residents fear telling their fall. Five of these sculptures have been purchased by the city of Rouen and are kept at the county museum of Antiquities.
Previously, the Revolution, the church was sold in 1791 and became the seat of a courier company before filing a foundry and finally as a reserve team and the New Galleries at installation to Rouen.
During the bombing of May 1944, the west wall is blown, causing the collapse of part of the frame and the roof of the nave. Then in 1951, the apse was removed as a precaution.
While the windows are kept in museums in London and Philadelphia, tables are saved from dispersion and transferred to the Museum of Fine Arts in the city.
To date, the remains enrolled in the church's inventory remained on its original site was purchased by the city in 1958 and remain visible walkers. In 2019, they were sold to be redeveloped as part of a new real estate and architectural project incorporating Gothic elements and contemporary (it will be a restaurant with a terrace).
