Convent of the Dominicains

Monument in Rouen

The Dominican Convent, formerly known as the convent of Gravelines is located rue de Joyeuse, northeast of Rouen, in the district of Santa Maria fountain.

Built in 1651, it housed the first French nationality nuns, Gravelines, who escaped hence the difficulties encountered by congregations during the Revolution. However, they eventually leave Rouen in 1794 and replaced under the First Empire by the Sisters of the Visitation.

Finally, in 1944, their previous monastery had been bombed, the site hosts some time Dominicans.

Bought by the state, protected as historical monuments, the whole site (convent building, cloister, chapel) was the subject of a real estate transaction to create housing and offices.

The former convent can be observed at a free walk or guided. Information at +33 2 32 08 32 40.
