Second city of the Roanne conurbation, Riorges takes place in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region, in the Loire department. Bordering Roanne, it is just an hour's drive from the famous city of Saint-Etienne, near an old marshy area now dry.
Occupied since Roman times, the territory of Riorges developed mainly after the twelfth century, including the foundation of the priory of the Ladies of Beaulieu.
