Located in the heart of the Ille-et-Vilaine, in the town of Rennes, the Ecomuseum of the Country of Rennes was built in the old farm of the Bintinais to enhance the local heritage and to discover life of old around Rennes. It is now labeled Museum of France.
Opened in 1987, the Ecomuseum of the Pays de Rennes extends over sixty hectares, the museum being installed in the main building of 1,200 m². On the program, an educational journey tracing the evolution of the region from the twelfth century to the present day through the themes of agriculture, architecture, living environment or the relationship between the countryside and the city. You can discover everyday objects, machines or furniture, as well as explanatory videos, interactive games or audiovisual media.
The Ecomuseum of the Pays de Rennes also offers thematic temporary exhibitions as well as animations organized regularly throughout the year. On site, you can discover an animal genetic conservatory with about twenty animal breeds such as Ouessant sheep, Cuckoo Rennes or Froment du Léon, and a plant genetic conservatory. You will be able to appreciate the agricultural evolution in Brittany during a playful and pleasant course.
