Discover of Rencurel and massive Coulmes...
Rencurel is a small village of about 320 inhabitants located in the heart of the Vercors Regional Park which stretches into many small hamlets between the gorges of the Bourne and the canyon of Ecouges.
Discover a unique and wilderness. Much of this region is occupied by the massive Coulmes, a huge forest of beech and ash (5500 hectares) which is crisscrossed by 100 km of trails or cross country skiing. The flora and fauna are omnipresent. This is a natural jewel in the heart of the Vercors.
Rencurel remains a farming village, there are several meat producers today, milk and goatherds. It is they who, over time have shaped the landscape, maintaining open spaces, as grasslands are of place. Cows milk is supplied to the Vercors Cooperative Milk Villard-de-Lans. This cooperative is managed by a Vercors producer group. The milk collected on the plateau, is transformed into Bleu du Vercors Sassenage (AOC). Goatherds transform locally the milk of their goats and propose a sale at the farm.
The neck of Romeyère is in winter a small family resort of downhill skiing at very affordable rate, with 3 lifts and 6 tracks. The northern area of Coulmes, from the Belvedere, connects three villages Rencurel Presles and Malleval and offers its 50 km of cross country trails in the vast wilderness and preserved Coulmes.
Bourne is only passing through the village, Balme. Over the centuries it has incised into the limestone rock, shaping the gorges of the Bourne.
