Charming town of Tarn, Occitan region Rabastens takes place forty kilometers from Albi and its cathedral, between Lisle-sur-Tarn and Saint-Sulpice-la-Pointe. Shooting privileged vacation of Toulouse, it is located near Giroussens, Loupiac and Roquemaure.

Inhabited since the Gallo-Roman, as evidenced by the remains found there, the territory of Rabastens develops later in the Middle Ages, in particular indicator affected by the Albigensian Crusade. Faithful to the counts of Toulouse, the town has indeed destroy the fortifications following the Treaty of Paris of 1229. Things to see and do

World Heritage of UNESCO under the pilgrimage of Saint Jacques de Compostela, the Notre-Dame-du-Bourg is also classified as an historic monument. Built in the first half of the thirteenth century, it is strongly destroyed by the Albigensian Crusade and knows several reconstruction periods. Mixing the southern Romanesque and Gothic styles, it presents including relics of the early church as the entrance gate with its eight carved capitals. Inside, you can admire frescoes depicting the life of Jacques le Majeur.

Other religious buildings can also be enjoyed in the town such as the church of the White Penitents, Our Lady of the Castle or St. John Puycheval.

In the heart of a mansion of the seventeenth century, the Museum of Country Rabastinois reveals fine collections of archeology, art and local history. One option is to discover the most complete collections of land glazed Giroussens, studio collection from local artists, or beautiful embroidery collections. Thematic exhibitions are regularly held there.

Walking through the town, do not miss the town hall in a former priory with its turret of the sixteenth century, the pigeon or the beautiful hotel of Castagne now home free school Puységur.

Events and festivities

The weekly market is held every Saturday morning. A second market is also offered on the second Tuesday of each month.

The Tarn Musical Moments offer classical music concerts in Giroussens in mid-July.

In mid-August, up to Rabastens Fest with his majorette show, its carnival, musical entertainment and fireworks.
