Things to see and do

St. Peter's Church is the main heritage building of the village. It dates from the 15th century but was rebuilt in the 18th and 19th centuries. Its singularity is to be devoid of steeple. An unusual "fact-divers" is at the origin of this curiosity. In July 1775, the lord of the place, the Marquis Gauthier de Bésigny, who was also president of the Paris Parliament, who arrived late for the Sunday service for having hunted in the surrounding woods, advanced in the alley of the church and killed the priest celebrating with a shotgun. The marquis had not borne that contrary to his wishes, the mass began in his absence. At the end of the trial, the church of Bellegarde was demolished until "the place where the blood of the priest had been poured", which resulted in the suppression of the choir and the bell tower built above, the marquis having to rebuild at its expenses a flat bedside... It was not until the nineteenth century that the church was enlarged. But without a bell tower being rebuilt. For a visit, contact +33 2 38 90 11 20.

A bucolic bridge overlooking the river Bezonde and a former wash house which now houses large floral compositions are the other notable heritage elements of the town.

A stop at Quiers-sur-Bézonde can then be very pleasant for hikers. The proposed tours include the wooded areas, the banks of the Bezonde, the flowery streets of the village or allow to observe the horticultural farms. Incursions can lead to the locality of Bellegarde and its superb castle. Maps and information on +33 2 38 78 04 04.

As for the fishermen, they have the faculty to practice their favorite hobby in the river. Learn about adapted sites and regulations at +33 2 38 56 62 69.

Finally, note that the locality has a homologated BMicross ground that welcomes experienced or beginners.
