Carentoir is a village of Morbihan in Brittany, the borders of Ille-et-Vilaine and bordering La Gacilly.

It was established in January 1, 2017 with the new common status of 3300 inhabitants, following the merger of Carentoir, which it has kept the name (2750 inhabitants) and Quelneuc (550 inhabitants).

The vast territory of 73 square kilometers of Carentoir is heavily wooded and remains primarily rural, even if the main town now has everything a small town with all shops and services. Shared since the Middle Ages between different manors and parishes affected by the uprising chouan in 1793 and Carentoir Quelneuc experiencing renewed prosperity in the late nineteenth century when farmers from the Nantes region clear new land.

Things to see and do

Heritage of ancient manors and parishes, the heritage of two former villages now gathered justifies a discovery journey that can begin with the village church of Carentoir, dedicated to St. Marcoul. The building dates from 1888 and replaced two churches: one erected in the ninth century, the second Romanesque twelfth, having been damaged during the Wars of Religion. Conventional style, the current keeps a beautiful silver chalice pushed seventeenth century church.

See then, the Church of St. John the Baptist, built by the Templars established the parish in the twelfth. During restoration, the church houses an altarpiece of the thirteenth.

The former castle of the Wall, one of the Labourdonnaye (XVI, remodeled in the nineteenth), with a chapel dedicated to Saint-Hyacinthe, also mark this circuit.

However, we also notice small number of so-called heritage, especially in the town and countryside and hamlets ovens, wells, fountains, bridges and chapels (some seventeenth and eighteenth) certifying that each "center life "once had spiritual and material resources to live independently.

On the old village Quelneuc in terms of heritage always, we admire the castle from the City-Queno, seat of a powerful lordship from the fourteenth century. It is also possible to join the local hiking club outings by contacting +33 2 99 08 50 53. And for information on the course of cyclocross Quelneuc which hosted several championships of France of discipline, joining the +33 2 99 08 21 75.

The town has two stages with lots of honor and a city-stadium. Two halls and a sports hall are available, all as several rooms of associations.

The last weekend in July, the Fondelienne party with gourmet and musical entertainment, punctuated by a fireworks display.

The first and third Tuesdays of the month, the Carentoir market is a positive opportunity to discover the rich local products Breton.

Every weekend in the summer, the Municipality of Carentoir organizes guided tours and free of Temple Church, as during Heritage Days.
