This joint of the Regional Natural Park of Morvan is located between the towns of Saint-Honoré-les-Bains and Onlay. In the 18th century, Préporché has five mills. The activity of pig, probably linked to that of Villapourçon, has long practiced through many chestnut trees in the region.
At the end of the 20th century, Préporché is the canton which has the largest number of cattle.
Préporché has a Romanesque church Saint-Pierre-de-Préporché with remarkable contemporary stained glass. These eight stained glass windows, made by the artist Michel Isabel in 2000, the theme of the season, the nights, the burning bush and the angel of St. Peter.
The village is crossed by rivers and Dungeon Dragne.
