The St. Peter Church of Prades in the Pyrenees-Orientales, 45 km west of Perpignan, was rebuilt from 1606 to 1696 on the foundations of a Romanesque building had become too small. The original bell tower of Lombard influence, high of 30 m has been preserved. It is divided into five separate levels of arches.
The rest of the building, dated seventeenth century is Gothic but sober, despite imposing dimensions.
However, listed building since 1948, the Church of Prades is renowned for its furniture, its ornamentation and its Treasure (objects of worship or sacred art).
The building and houses an exceptional Baroque altarpiece in its proportions, sculpted by Catalan Joseph Sunyer (1699). It was included the apostle Peter blessing the faithful.
An organ of Grinda brothers (1818), paintings by Leo Polge (XIX) are also to see.
As the treasury of the church, it is composed of dozens of pieces (statues, chalices, tabernacles, monstrances...) from old churches in the area but also the golden altar in the sheet and the reliquary of the nearby Abbey St. Michael Cuxa, set safety to Prades during the Revolution.
On another level, the church hosts a renowned annual music festival founded by cellist Pablo Casals who found exile in the city in 1937.
