Pont-de-Salars

Just above a meander of Viaur, stand the ruins of an old castle built in the eleventh century. Partly repaired in the first half of the seventeenth century, it fell into disuse from the eighteenth century.

Listed as a historic monument, the Saint-Georges church is a 12th century Romanesque building. It still reveals today a fortified arcaded bell tower, as well as a tympanum fragment representing the Christ-Judge of the old cathedral of Rodez above its portal. Not far, it is possible to admire a beautiful oratory of the sixteenth century.

Also listed as a Historical Monument, the bridge of Saint-Georges de Camboulas was built in the second half of the 19th century, in 1872. You will not miss to appreciate the chapel Notre-Dame-de-Salars dedicated to the Holy Virgin.

Every year, the lakes of Pont-de-Salars and Bage attract many holidaymakers eager to enjoy the nautical base, camping or the municipal beach. Forbidden to swim, Bage Lake is mainly frequented by fishermen.

The town is crossed by the hiking trail GR 62 linking Meyrueis to Conques.

• In July and August, the town organizes a night market on Wednesdays from 17h to 20h. A Christmas market is also proposed in December.
• Every year in June, for the festival of music, the town offers concerts.
• In mid-July, for the national holiday, Pont-de-Salars organizes a great evening at the lake with a meal, a ball and a fireworks display.
• In August, place at the international folklore festival of Rouergue, a very famous event.
• The votive festival is held every year in mid-August with various concerts.

• Rodez: pink sandstone cathedral whose construction will last from the 13th to the 16th century. Fenaille Museum, Prehistory, statues-menhirs, Middle Ages... Denis-Puech Museum; paintings and sculptures.
• Museum of rural carriages in Salmiech.
• Saint-Beauzély, castle (MHI) of the twelfth and sixteenth centuries. It houses the Museum of Stone and Rural Life, and is open to visitors from April 1 to October 15.
• Castle Vezins, destroyed by a fire in 1642, it was rebuilt soon after. Open to the visit in summer.
