The common Pont-de-Labeaume is the confluence of the waters of the Ardeche and Fontaulière two rivers lined with magnificent basalt. On the slopes, we find a chestnut that is renewed, in particular through the work of Paul and Leynaud number of cherry or plum.
At the beginning of the century, perched 400 meters above sea level, the town Nieigles and its old church from the 11th century reign of the valley. But at the bottom, along the waters of the Ardeche, the silk industry has grown significantly, and a little further, it is coal mining which also thrive. Are there cause and effect? The town broke the law of 13 December 1903 which divides into two sections: one hand and Pont-de-Labeaume Lalevade other.
Pont-de-Labeaume extends along the route of the Cevennes. The village takes its name from the Roman bridge that allowed the old Roman road from Alba crossing the Ardeche and go on Montpezat. As for the place name "Labeaume", it comes from the Gallic "Balma" (hermit's cave). We can also see by following the current road to the hamlet of Nieigles almost across the bridge, a shallow cave that goes into the volcanic cliffs of the old Roman road. Still a very interesting witness, located at the corner of Church Square: a milestone, high stone column in honor of a Roman emperor to mark a road junction.
