The second largest museum in Poitiers, the Rupert de Chièvres museum takes place in a former private mansion located between the prefecture and the town hall. Listed as a Historic Monument, it takes its name from its owner in the 19th century. The latter has indeed built up a very fine collection of paintings from the Dutch and Flemish schools, as well as furniture and earthenware.
Entirely restored in the 2000s, the Rupert de Chièvres museum allows visitors to discover artistic periods not explored by the Sainte-Croix museum, from the 16th to the 18th century.
