Located in the department of Morbihan, Ploemel is a small Breton commune taking place between Auray, La Trinité-sur-Mer and Etel. Located about a hundred kilometers from Quimper, it is mainly known today for its tourist activity.
Occupied since the Neolithic times, the commune of Ploemel was successively populated by the Celts, the Veneti and the Romans, before the Bretons arrived in the 7th century. From these successive epochs, the town has preserved an interesting architectural heritage, and lovers of old stones will be seduced by the monuments that populate the place.
There are plenty of activities in Ploemel, whether they are sporting or cultural, and both small and large will find their happiness among the many sites to discover in this charming and very family-friendly commune.
Like many of her sisters in Britain, Ploemel has an interesting religious heritage. Walking through the streets of this charming village, you will be able to admire the chapel of Locmaria built in the sixteenth century. Inscribed in the Historic Monuments, it was built by the family Broérec in a funerary vocation. In the nave, one can still see the tombstone of Pierre Broérec died during the Hundred Years War in the 14th century. Also built in the sixteenth century, the chapel of Recouvrance is also lacking interest. Inside, it is possible to discover murals depicting the episodes of the Passion of Christ. It has also been listed in the Historic Monuments. Finally, the chapel of Saint-Méen is restored. Inscribed in the Historical Monuments, it presents in its interior very beautiful windows, a high altar in contemporary granite, as well as statues dating from the XVIIIe and XIXe centuries.
Classified as Historical Monuments, the dolmen at Mané-Bogad gallery is a very ancient vestige of the human occupation in Ploemel. Not far away is the cave of the Virgin of Kerivin erected in the 1920s by the inhabitants with the help of megalithic monuments.
The Mané-Bogad Park, near the dolmen, is very popular with younger people and their parents. It includes a water park, games for children and a sports program for the most courageous.
The town also has the Saint-Laurent golf course to practice in a unique setting, and you can appreciate the charms of the Saint-André church built in the 19th century.
Several marked hiking trails are accessible in and around the commune of Ploemel, like that of chapels and fountains which is 10 kilometers, or that of Mané-Bogad which is 6 kilometers.
Le P'tit Délire is a leisure park taking place on the commune of Ploemel. Familiar, it offers attractions for ages with rides, a hilltop village, a zipline, a dwarf goat farm and many other amusing attractions.
