Listed among the most beautiful villages of France, Saint-Côme-d'Olt is a beautiful group of buildings by the river. A harmonious picture that you can take the time to admire from the bridge over the Lot... Boasting a Renaissance door, the Church of St Cosmas has another distinctive feature: a twisted bell-tower. Old houses, 16th-century mansions and fortified doors are some of the other architectural sights to see.

On high land not far from the village, you'll find an unusual site: the Roquelaure lava flow or Clapas de Thubiès, an extremely impressive basaltic scree slope!

Saint-Côme-d'Olt

Small town of Aveyron, in Occitan region Saint-Côme-d'Olt is ranked among the most beautiful villages in France. It takes place on the banks of the Lot, near Espalion Laguiole and Condom-d'Aubrac.

Inhabited since the Paleolithic, as evidenced by the remains found there, the territory of Saint-Cole-Olt had later an important development in the Gallo-Roman era and the Middle Ages, thanks to its dedicated hospice to St. Cosmas and Damian. Installed on the way to Saint Jacques de Compostela, the town has kept many traces of passing pilgrims still attract visitors today.

Full of charm, this town in south-western France seduced by the richness of its architectural and cultural heritage, as well as by its dynamic and pleasant atmosphere.

Things to see and do

Listed historical monument, the Church of St. Cosmas and St. Damian was built in the sixteenth century on the remains of a much older chapel. Flamboyant Gothic style, it reveals its visitors a charming bell tower flamed over forty meters high rated in Europe and a major sculpture. Inside, several objects also receive a ranking historic monument like the door of the sacristy of the fifteenth century, a Henry IV confessional style of the seventeenth or even a wooden Christ on the cross walnut fifteenth century.

Built between the eleventh and the twelfth century, the chapel of the Penitents, also known as Church of St. Pierre de Boisse, the subject of a classification as an historic monument for its roofing and facades. Romanesque style, the building has a paneled roof and a bell tower. Inside, you can find several tombstones and a beautiful statue of St. Michael, which once adorned the portal of the Church of St. Cosmas and St. Damian.

Join the Historical Monuments, the old castle now houses City Hall. It has particularly beautiful corner towers.

Walking through the old town, be sure not to admire the remains of the ancient fortifications walls, the house Caylus Pons with its medieval tower, the bridge on the Lot with its sixteenth century batteries or Ouradou. This chapel was built in the sixteenth century after the end of the plague.
