Néris-les-Bains

• The Gallo-Roman swimming pools: In the Parc des Chaudes, you can see three Roman swimming pools. In the past (1st and 2nd centuries), they were covered in marble and surrounded by porticoes. They belonged to the Northern Baths and were unearthed in 1847.
• The Roman theater-amphitheater: It was a vast building 96 meters in diameter leaning against the hill which had an arena in the center surrounded by stands and a scene. Currently suitable for walking, the semi-circular paths and some walls recall the general shape of the building.
• The Merovingian necropolis: Located on the Place de l'Église, this vast collection of ancient burials is made up of stone blocks from the ruins of the Gallo-Roman city from which the Merovingian sarcophagi were carved.
• The Romanesque church: Built in the 6th century on the ruins of the Roman basilica, the Saint-Georges church was rebuilt in the 11th century (apse, choir, transept) and 12th century for the nave. The octagonal bell tower is made of chestnut shingles. The capitals mostly date from the 11th and 12th centuries. We can observe three remarkable statues: the Virgin and Child, Saint George slaying the dragon, and Saint Agatha, protector of shepherds, as well as paintings from the 17th and 19th centuries.
• The Baths: The current Baths are built on the same site as the Roman Baths (South Baths). The first stone was laid in 1826 by the Dauphine, Duchess of Angoulême; However, the building was not completely finished until 1855.
• A new spa, "Les Nériades", has been open since February 2014. To do if you want to relax during your stay.
• The theater and the Casino: The building was built from 1896 to 1898, when the thermal establishment was considered too narrow to contain the entertainment rooms. The Napoleon III style (half-round) theater is called an Italian theater (inclined stage). Restored in 1987, it is perfectly equipped to host any type of show and accommodate up to 265 people. Built at the same time as the theater, the Casino hosted different lounges: coffee room, reading lounge, games and conversation rooms, party room, etc.
• The lake pavilion: The influx of spa guests at the end of the 19th century already led the municipality to request rail service to the station. However, it was not until 1920 that the work and the line were launched. This Clermont-Ferrand - Montluçon line would also of course allow you to reach Paris. The passage of the line required the construction of three viaducts to reach Montluçon: Sainte-Agathe, Pérassier and Néris. The station building was built from 1929 to 1931 by the architect Louis Brachet. It surprises with the originality of its roof in polychrome glazed tiles, and its construction in granite and pink sandstone. The line operated briefly, from 1931 to 1939 for passengers. The Paris-Néris express train was, however, maintained until 1957 during the thermal season. Goods traffic until 1969. Today, the lake pavilion is a socio-cultural room fitted out in the historic spaces and a modern extension. Three spaces are available for conferences, exhibitions, shows, balls, receptions, weddings... The large room "la Coupole", the small room "Louis Brachet" and the exhibition room "Espace Ganesco". The railway line between Néris and Montluçon has become a pleasant pedestrian route which connects the two towns in peace and greenery.
• Viaducts: Three viaducts were necessary to put the Montluçon - Néris-les-Bains railway into service. Today this old railway line has become a pedestrian route: a pleasant walk awaits you along this 6.4 km path which joins Montluçon, offering you magnificent landscapes.
• The Saint-Joseph chapel: Located on a hill wooded with pine and chestnut trees, it was built on the initiative of Abbot Clément in 1894. The statue of the saint which surmounts the chapel measures 4 m with its base and weighs 1400 kg. It was restored in 2003 by the municipality. In season, the chapel is open (opening hours from the Tourist Office).

Every July 14: "Belle Époque" festival on the theme of the 1900s with various activities, including a costume parade, carriage rides, etc.

The 1st Sunday in October: the Nérisienne (race and hikes for a local association which fights against breast cancer).
