Located on the Aquitaine coast about fifty miles west of the city Bordeaux, between the Pointe de Grave and the Arcachon basin, the city of Lacanau part of what is called the peninsula Island Médoc. The municipality covers an area of 21 387 hectares and represents 1/50th of the department of Gironde. 20 kilometers separating its most extreme points.
Lacanau Landes is one of the Médoc and consists of three distinct sites: Lacanau City on the banks of the lake of the same name Lacanau Ocean at the edge of the Atlantic Ocean and Lake (20 km ²) with multiple hamlets Talaris The Moutchic the Tedey, Carreyre, Great Escoure, Longarisse. Lacanau Lacanau City and Ocean are distant twelve miles.
The name comes from the term Occitan Lacanau "canau" meaning channel.
Ancient Gaulish village, eventually becoming one Gallo-Roman port, it takes the vocation resort in the second half of the 19th century.
Its inhabitants are called Lacanau and Canaulaises. Lacanau has a population of 4488 inhabitants in the year and more than 80,000 in the summer, the peak of the tourist.

The Dune du Pyla: A 60 km from Bordeaux, south of the Arcachon basin, it is possible to visit the highest dune in Europe, the Great Dune of Pyla. This dune reaches 107 meters. At the top, the view is spectacular. It offers under the ocean coast, passing entrance of Arcachon, the Landes forest and the sky is clear, the Pyrenees.
