Located in the Northern Vosges, in Moselle, the castle of Rothenburg is one of those rocks built in the Middle Ages to accommodate the knights in the service of the lords of the region. Located in the town of Philippsbourg, it dates back, according to some historians, to the end of the 13th century.
Destroyed in the second half of the 14th century by the militias of Strasbourg, the castle of Rothenburg was never rebuilt thereafter. Today in ruins, it still reveals a scrolling path, a ditch and sections of walls that hug the contours of the upper rock. Despite its advanced state of degradation, the site hosted a military post at the start of the Second World War.
