The village's name is mentioned for the first time in 1388. At that time he was probably already attached to the parish of Angeot and was part of the lordship of Rougemont.

After the War of 1871 and the application of the Treaty of Frankfurt, was detached Petitefontaine Township Masevaux with other common "French": Rougemont, Leval and Romagny. In 1803 the village had 201 inhabitants and 174 in 1999.
