The Sainte-Marie-Madeleine church is located in the commune of Pérouges, in the Ain department, 19 km southwest of Ambérieu-en-Bugey.
It was built in the 15th and 16th centuries at the entrance to the village, near the Porte d'En-Haut, integrated into the old rampart walk.
With a crenellated facade pierced by loopholes, it is a "fortress church" with fortified walls which defended access to the center of the town. Its bays are narrow but have stained glass windows and apart from its side chapels, its Gothic style is however austere.
The building benefits from quality acoustics and as such, it hosts numerous concerts, notably during the Spring music festival of Pérouges scheduled for the end of June and the beginning of July.
The church itself, listed in the Inventory, preserves numerous objects and works classified as objects: statues, altarpieces, sarcophagi, etc.
Open every day. An unmissable visit during a stopover in this commune, a member of the association of the Most Beautiful Villages of France.
