  • Introduction:
  • The small town character since 1992, flowered village (3 flowers), has Parné-sur-Roc develop and maintain its historic heritage to become a town that has, on more than one title, interest worthy of the most beautiful villages of Maine.
  • The attraction of this lively town, with its welcoming character so special is real and goes beyond the simple geographical position in the 2nd crown Laval. The evolution of the population, visitor numbers are proof of that recognition.
  • Managing this development in the respect and preservation of its heritage has been and is a key element for the team elected. The maintenance and enhancement of the common public good remains a concern widely shared by parnéens.
  • A little history:
  • A local Gallo-Roman near the ford Entrammes on the Mayenne River, crossed by an ancient Roman road, called the path Rennes (Roman road), the terroir Parné was implemented very soon.
  • From the time Gallic farms settled on the slopes of the Goose.
  • To the west of the town today, a Gallo-Roman (a large rural area) was probably the remains of patrinius (or Paternus) which gave its name to Parné.
  • Beside the road was worth: the 11th century, the lords of Parné gave the church to the Abbey of Saint-Nicolas d'Angers, with a land to found a town.
  • The town prospered thanks to the passage of a major highway. Gradually during the Middle Ages, the ancient routes were modified according to the distribution of people and activities. A Parné, passed the road was worth it to say the way to Laval, from leading tours and Mont-Saint-Michel. Do not be surprised if, in the 15th and 17th century were Parné no less than five inns.
  • Flax and lime:
  • After the Middle Ages, linen weaving was the dominant activity in Mayenne, in cities as in villages. The weavers worked at home and sell their produce to traders. In the 18th century most of the population lived Parné canvas. Old houses have retained the damp cellar where you installed the loom so that the wire is flexible.
  • The progress of agriculture in the 19th century amendments requiring more abundant led the development of a new industry, that of lime. Located on a shoal of carboniferous limestone, Parné is endowed from 1818, lime kilns, which strongly mark the landscape of the town, when tackles today by the road Entrammes.
  • A gastronomic specialty: smoked trout parnéenne. Renowned county at least, smoked trout from the fish farm Parné is a real attraction, with the possibility of a fishing trip around the two ponds along the Goose.

  • Heritage parnéen:
  • The different historical periods, changes in local economic activity have left their footprints. The most notable of these stories are certainly past the architectural achievements of the common Parné-sur-Roc.
  • The natural heritage of this village is another component of the richness and variety that is also worth discovering. Valley Goose, rockets, Roman roads and medieval, the many landscapes are remarkable in the illustration. Not to mention the wildlife present on the town.
  • The architectural heritage:
  • The church: it appears for the first time in texts in 1030. From this period dates the Romanesque nave with very small windows (there is one on each side). The belfry-porch was added to the front in the 12th century. The tower includes elongated windows, is crowned by a pyramidal tower, the only tower Romanesque stone kept in Mayenne. Inside, murals (XVI-XVII century), polychrome pulpit (seventeenth century) and beautiful descent from the cross of Biardeau (1668). The chorus and the chapels date from 1895. The transept date from the 15th century with two picturesque sculptures representing animals crawling on the bottom of the gable.
  • The chapel once a place of pilgrimage, a place of worship away from the town, the chapel dedicated to Our Lady of mercy, restored in 1843 was rebuilt in 1872 with a monument dedicated to Mr Ricosset. It is located on the highest point. During its restoration in 2008, discovered a title dated March 30, 1882 authorizing the celebration of Rogation Day of St Marc.
  • The City Hall: This building square follows from the gradual addition of several separate buildings remained at the roof. The oldest part, left, back to the Middle Ages. It is supported by buttresses on the side of the slope and retains an arc carefully sailed.
  • The medieval house: after the Hundred Years War, the revival of business promotes the proliferation of a type of house that it is a good example: body-storey building, served by a stair tower at center of the facade, roof slope steeply. The brace very sharp above a door blocked, taste is characteristic of this period (fifteenth century). By cons stone inserted in the wall is more recent (seventeenth century). The initials "M.C." must be those of an owner. They overcome a bleeding heart, a religious emblem.
  • The house with two towers: the original facade of the two towers that make landfall. They were originally the staircase towers of two adjacent houses. The oldest, right, was destroyed after the meeting in one house, probably around 1780. All dedicated to weaving before the Revolution, later became an inn.
  • Home of the White Cross: the building that borders the old road was worth the 15th century. It is typical of houses in the late Middle Ages, with its floor to wood studs, than on the street. He added in the 16th century, a body perpendicular to the side of the garden and a turret staircase. In the 12th century, White Cross was an inn. Then it was inhabited by weavers from 1740 to 1860 approximately. The weaving was done in half a damp cellar, where we see the entrance to the pinion.
  • Home Frippier: built in 1868, this remarkable building is the most complete example of a style that flourished in Parné which shows another embodiment down the street at Goats. Industry Mayenne pottery inherited medieval still providing construction materials in the 19th century. The main workshops were near Laval (Thévalles, Saint-Pierre-le-Potier) Aget and especially in Saint-Brice in the southwestern department.
  • Home Faucheux: built in 1878, this house shows the fantasy that allows the decorative use of terra cotta. As the house Frippier, consoles support the window sill. But here the tufa combined with the brick in the crown of openings.
  • The lime kiln: this activity together in 1818 to 1936 is made to each end of two ovens tower, pierced at the base of three recesses for pushing (1818). Lime for soil improvement was obtained by cooking the Carboniferous limestone mined in the nearby quarry. We loaded the furnace by the Summit (loudmouth) alternating layers of stone and coal, constantly renewed. A steam engine, installed on the platform in 1893, facilitated traction of wagons.
