Building located on Daumesnil Avenue, in the 12th district of Paris, the Palace of the Golden Gate was built on the occasion of the 1931 Colonial Exhibition. Also known as the National Museum of African and Oceanic Arts it is part of the continuity of the Art Deco movement. The facade is notably decorated with a bas-relief by Alfred Janniot illustrating the wealth of the colonies.
Partly listed as a Historical Monument, it now houses the Museum of the History of Immigration and the tropical aquarium of the Porte Dorée Palace. The central hall, designed by Albert Laprade, unveils a 600 sqm fresco by Pierre-Henri Ducos from La Haille and his students, and it is possible to discover two lounges on each side of the entrance. The first is of African inspiration and the second of Asian inspiration.
