The mansion of Bassompierre is located at number 23 of the Place des Vosges, in the 3rd arrondissement of the capital.
Contemporary of the layout of the square at the beginning of the seventeenth century, the building was first occupied in 1614 by Marie Touchet, who was the mistress of King Charles IX and whose daughter was a favorite of Henri IV. Inheriting the mansion, the son of the latter, bishop of Saintes, sells it to the Hôtel-Dieu in 1655.
The building is attached in 1735 to his neighbor, the hotel of Cardinal Richelieu (number 21).
The complex, located on the north side of the square, was classified as a historical monument in 1920 for its facades and roofs. In 1953, it is a decorated ceiling of one of the apartments of the building which is inscribed (it had been inhabited by the poet Adelaide-Gillette Dufrénoy in the early nineteenth century), the vaulted gallery of the ground floor, the doors and the stairs being in turn in 1955.
