Parcey is a commune in the Jura department, in the Bourgogne-Franche-Comté region, 10 km south of Dole.
Its territory of nearly 9 km² is bordered by the course of the Loue which constitutes its "southern" limit before flowing into the Doubs in the south-west. This confluence proves to be one of the natural assets of the locality, as well as the reserve of the island of Girard, at the level of an arm of the Doubs.
The landscapes of Parcey remain green (its area includes nearly 60% agricultural land and 15% forest): it is moreover for its bucolic charms and the attractions of the Loue valley that a stage is of real interest, especially since the town's leisure offer has adapted to this environmental richness.
Appeared in the Middle Ages when its church was donated to Saint-Marcel Abbey (near Chalon-sur-Saône), the village which bordered the demarcation line during the Second World War now has a thousand inhabitants.
Near Dole and on the edge of the Val d'Amour (which now designates the Loue valley), Parcey really deserves a detour...
The Saint-Germain church is the main heritage element of the town. The current building dates from 1557. From this period still date the transept, the high altar and its altarpiece, but also the paneling (at the level of the choir) and the pulpit. Listed in the Inventory, restored in 2000, the church also has a bell tower topped with an imperial dome covered with glazed tiles, a regional feature that gives it its character.
To see next, the mills of Parcey located on the banks of the Loue since 1529. Obviously modernized over the centuries, taking advantage of the hydraulic energy of the river, the milling unit now belongs to the Nicot group and perpetuates the knowledge -do local.
Finally, still in terms of heritage, it is the bridge over the Loue that deserves attention. A first stone structure built in the 18th century was washed away by floods in 1844. A metal bridge replaced it, followed by a new arched structure in the 1930s. The latter was to have a major role during the Second World War. Indeed, from the summer of 1940 to November 1942, the demarcation line separating the northern part of the country occupied by the German army from the southern zone under the Vichy government followed the course of the Loue. At Parcey, brave smugglers brought many resisters and persecuted people across the river. A stele pays homage to them on each side of the new bridge built after the war. In another register, during a visit or a stay, it can be very interesting to visit the workshop of master glassmaker Antoine Benoit, who revolutionized the modern art of stained glass, excluding lead from his works, which can be seen in New York, Moscow or Lisieux… Open all year round. It is then time to take advantage of the natural environment of Parcey and in particular the banks of the Loue, whose beauty still inspires many painters. A natural beach is also accessible there (note: this bathing point is not supervised), and in summer, the course of the river lends itself to canoe trips (contact +33 3 84 72 11 22).
On both sides of the campsite, the fishermen are also celebrating. However, find out about regulations and suitable areas on +33 3 84 72 13 18.
Another advantage of Parcey: near the confluence between Doubs and Loue, entirely located within the perimeter of a protected natural area dotted with water, the Val d'Amour golf course was created. The wooded course (poplars, willows, birches) is 2962 m long and includes 9 holes ("Par 36"). It can be done back and forth. The golf course also includes a 25-post driving range and a practice area with putting green. In addition, for non-golfers, a 3.5 km footpath has been laid out within the golf course to discover its environmental riches and aquatic fauna... Open all year round. Price: from 36 to 44 euros for 18 holes. Information on +33 3 84 71 04 23.
Finally, the town is very popular with hiking enthusiasts (on foot or by bike). Since 2021, they have benefited in particular from the development of the Voie Grévy, a greenway taking an old railway route in the country of Dole and partly following the courses of the Doubs and the Loue. 19 km long, with only moderate gradients, the Voie Grévy joins the EuroVelo 6 route at Dole, a 4,450 km cycle route that connects the Atlantic to the Black Sea (in Romania)!
Other loops and paths are also signposted, which allow you to enjoy the bucolic charms of the locality and the areas protected for their ecological richness. Maps and information on +33 3 84 72 11 22.
The second Friday of the month from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m., a farmers' market showcases the region's terroir (cheeses, cured meats, etc.).
The second weekend of October, in parallel with the Marathon des Vins du Jura "Terre de Pasteur", a 10 km race between Parcey and Dole.
