Romanesque building from the 11th century, the Saint-Jean-l'Évangéliste church of Ouveillan, in the Aude, is now listed in the Historic Monuments. A fine example of Languedoc Roman art, it was enlarged in the 12th century and then transformed over the centuries with in particular fortifications in the 14th century, a bell tower redone in the 16th century or the piercing of oval windows in the upper part of the central nave in the second. half of the 17th century.
But it is mainly for its bedside that the Church of Saint-Jean-l'Évangéliste seduces. With a triple apse with polychrome, it is entirely in freestone and raised in rubble stone. Lombard Romanesque style, it presents visitors with beautiful double-splayed windows highlighted by a bead of black lava.
