- Osthoffen: "field of the East" ... First village of Golden Crown at the gates of Strasbourg, Osthoffen means "field to the east. The origin of Osthoffen is a Roman camp, which moved to the current location of the castle. The Roman camp was part of the observation posts along the Roman road of the Vosges mountains of Piedmont, who ascended from south to north of Alsace. The Romans, thereby protecting the exchanges were made by road.
- Then "the court is" ... A little later, Osthoffen was "the court is" the palace of King Dagobert Kirrcheim. In the court of Koenigshoffen, the royal road earned by the old Roman road from the villa through Saverne Kuttolsheim. It is therefore not surprising that the village form a crossroads.
