Fortified ensemble located in the town of Orée d'Anjou, in Maine-et-Loire, the castle of Champtoceaux takes place on a rocky outcrop above the Loire. Located on the border between Brittany, Anjou and Poitou, the building originally had a strategic position that earned it many seats.
Destroyed in the first half of the 15th century by the Duke of Brittany, the fortress of Champtoceaux today only reveals vestiges, in the form of two entrance towers and the ruins of the old stronghold. Originally, the castle covered around thirty hectares, but only the stately part is now accessible with the keep, the Saint-Pierre chapel, the drawbridge or even a vaulted cellar.
From the site, nestled in lush greenery, visitors enjoy a breathtaking view over the entire Loire Valley.
