Orbigny, one of the oldest villages in Touraine, known since the 5th century, with its approximately 6,588 hectares, is the second largest municipality in the Indre-et-Loire department after Loché-sur-Indrois.
The town was mainly occupied by large landowners who employed a multitude of small hands for several small trades, which considerably modified the rural layers.
The form of activity that emerges the most is metallurgy, where stones were extracted for the manufacture of paths and rubble for houses. Closer to us, in the 1900s, the expanses of farms covered a large third of the town.
The origin of its church, dedicated to Saint Vincent of Zaragoza, dates back to the 6th century.
The town has a river which flows towards the Indrois crossing three towns, namely Beaumont-Village, Chemillé-sur-Indrois and downstream Montrésor. In downtown Orbigny, you will see her moving between the houses.
