Pierre-Levée Castle is located on the territory of Olonne-sur-Mer, Vendée, municipality merged on January 1, 2019 with the station of Sables-d'Olonne, on the Atlantic coast.
The castle was built in 1770 by Luc Pezot, a wealthy owner and alderman of the locality. On a site already known to house two menhirs dating from prehistory, which explains its name, the building has an architectural style inspired directly from the Petit Trianon of Versailles.
His first owner died without heirs, the castle of Pierre-Levée is bought after the Revolution by the Auvynet family whose descendants still live there.
Part of the castle is listed as a Historic Monument since 1948 (facades, roofs and rooms on the ground floor), the rest of the site is included in the supplementary inventory, including the park.
Private property, the castle is not visited but it is the setting every year, early August, a sound and light show mobilizing several nights in a row 250 volunteers. The scenario evokes in particular the history of the castle and the revolutionary period in Vendée. Information on +33 6 58 64 73 35.
It can also be included on the route of a hike along the golf course of Les Olonnes, set back from the coast. Map and information on +33 2 55 89 00 55.
