Things to see and do

A discovery of the heritage of the town can logically begin with its parish church of Saint-Hilaire, built in the 12th and 13th centuries, then remodeled in the 17th and restored in the 20th. Protected as historical monuments, the church is remarkable for its vaulted choir in the Angevin (or Plantagenêt) style and the monumental fresco it houses representing "the Death of Saint Hilaire" (12th century, restored in the 20th century). Besides other frescoes and paintings, an 18th century altarpiece is also preserved. In summer, guided tours are offered as well as workshops dedicated to young people on the theme of frescoes. In addition to the former Benedictine priory of Sainte-Marie-Madeleine, which depended in the Middle Ages on the Abbey of Vézelay, now transformed into dwellings but still listed in the Inventory, are still to see the beautiful wash house of the village, the ruins of the castle of Bouchet (XIth, XIIth) or the picturesque mill of Boisard (XVIIth) which nowadays shelters guest rooms (information on +33 6 07 80 27 86).

Finally, the Château de Montaupin (13th century, remodeled in the 18th century) is all the more interesting as medieval elements have been preserved (such as the dovecote dating from 1407 transformed into… rural lodging, decorations adorned with coats of arms) while by integrating with later fittings (18th century living room, suspended staircase, etc.). Private property, the site located in a bucolic setting is open to the public from time to time, especially during Heritage Days in September. Contact on +33 6 72 02 85 34.

In terms of cultural leisure activities, the John Fratelellini circus school is located in Oisé (a member of the famous family that produced many circus artists). Courses and workshops are available to holidaymakers, especially the youngest, where the basics and techniques of acrobatics, juggling, trapeze and even vaulting on horseback are taught. Inquire on +33 7 82 01 69 80.

In another genre, thanks to an association, screenings of recent films are scheduled regularly in a hall of the town hall. Information on +33 2 43 87 81 62.

On the nature side, in addition to the charms of the leisure area set up in the very heart of the town, note that the Moulin du Rouveau educational farm welcomes many farm animals. deemed too old or not productive enough. Specific activities for children are offered (feeding, brushing, etc.). Contact on +33 6 46 32 04 85.

For hiking enthusiasts, four marked trails are marked out in the town itself, allowing you to appreciate the forest environments, bocage areas, peat bogs or even the banks of the courses of water and mills. They are 5 to 21 km long. In addition, larger loops make it possible, for example, to reach La Flèche and the banks of the Loir. There, the tracks for two wheels of the "Vallée du Loir à Vélo" route reveal a rich potential in this area.
