Offemont

• The Town Hall: In the entrance hall of the City Hall of Offemont, a magnificent iron clock, certainly dating from the 18th-19th century, grazes its ticking. This clock carried only a needle in front, the lightness of the mechanism does not allow other couplings. The clock is small, the striking mechanism has been shortened to allow the installation of a bell on the frame.
• The Marianne: Unique, it was inaugurated on March 17, 2016. Made in the greatest secrecy by Ms. Geneviève Brocard and Mr. Jean-Marc Müller, its unveiling left no one indifferent. It is now ensuring respect for the values ​​of the Republic in the Council Chamber. The posters of the various Presidents of the Republic and the Mayors of Offemont from 1792 to the present day have found their place beside him.
• The paintings: Reception of the Town Hall: "The war of Spain" Raymond Moretti. Municipal Council Room: "The allotment gardens" Bernard Gantner.
• The participative library: You can find a participatory library at the reception of the town hall of Offemont. The principle is simple: you can borrow books for free and make donations.
• Ginkgo Biloba: Located at the bottom of the car park, this Ginkgo Biloba is a tree of the Ginkgoaceae family, one of the oldest tree families in the world. It has many medicinal properties. It promotes good blood circulation and strengthens brain function. In Asia, ginkgo leaves are used in decoctions to relieve respiratory diseases such as asthma or bronchitis, but also as a dewormer. The seeds are used to prepare remedies for urinary disorders. In poultices, it also helps to heal ulcers and bruises. Many cosmetic treatments use ginkgo as a base for its protective and repairing properties on the skin.
• "The corner of lovers": This place, safe from prying eyes, is the meeting point of lovers and young people of the town. In the evening, these benches are an ideal point of view on the Miotte and its lighted tower.
• The Saint-Augustin church: The construction of the church, property of the town, began in 1844 at the initiative of Abbot Fietier, priest of Belfort, who was the main contractor. Offemont sandstone quarries provided the stones. The stones of the old chapel, located on the other side of the road, have been reused for the new construction. In 1844, the walls and the roof were in place; in 1845 the wooden vaults were made; in 1846, paving, benches and a small wooden belfry. The current bell tower, signed by the architect Charles Genty, was built in 1864. The rooster on the steeple dates from 1891 (it contains the list of inhabitants of the town who participated in its installation and repair in 1931 and 1973). The first mass was celebrated August 28, 1846 on the feast of St. Augustine, patron saint of the parish. The church, neo-gothic style, consists of a nave and a choir; she has no transept. Ten pillars support the wooden arch. These pillars are wood, only the one that supports the pulpit is stone. In 1959, the vault was closed by a floor. Stained glass windows date from the 1939-1945 war.
• The bells: The four bells: "Jeanne Marie" (850 kg), the two "Catherine" (550 and 350 kg) and "Marie" (150 kg) were melted in 1862.
• The clock: The mechanism of the clock was built between 1853 and 1859 by the Ungerer workshop. The clock rings the half-hours and the hours thanks to a hammer that strikes one of the bells (Jeanne Marie). The mechanism of the clock is located in the bell tower at the level of the current ceiling. A system of rods and cardans returns the time to the dials located on the 4 faces of the bell tower. The needles move suddenly every 30 seconds. The axis of the balance is made of wood to limit the variations of length due to the variations of temperature which disturb the clock. The weight that actuates it is automatically reassembled by an electric motor. This clock is, in the region, one of the rare clocks of this time to still function.
• The sandstone crosses: In the wall of the north facade of the church, the medallion of a sandstone cross, with the effigy of St Guérin (patron saint of the first chapel of the commune) and the arms of Mazarin, has been inserted. The foot of the cross has been incorporated into the masonry of the southeast corner of the church. This cross dates from 1760. Inside the church, a cross dating from 1712 represents a nativity. This is the original of the cross of Soiras. The cross is inscribed as a historical monument since May 27, 1964.
• The cross road: Dating from 1785, it is located at the crossroads of the Rue des Maquisards and rue des Cerisiers. Path crosses, shapes, sizes and varied materials, embellish both villages and hamlets as country roads and symbolize the act of faith of the community. They are often met at crossroads, they guide the traveler and protect him from the unknown and bad encounters. When the cross is erected, it is blessed, and is generally the object of worship: it was most often processions, but for crosses distant villages or isolated hamlets, the demonstrations were much more humble: the shepherdesses going to the fields hung a branch of broom on the shaft of the cross, or deposited a bouquet of flowers.
• The geographical boundary: If you have the time, go to admire the stele by going street under the Miotte. It is located on a communal property, between Belfort and Offemont.
• The monument of the Maquis de Cherimont: This monument stands at the locality "Le Pertu" on the edge of the communal forest of Offemont. On the granite obelisk is inscribed the inscription: "Here 20 French were massacred by the Germans on 26-09-44". Their bodies were discovered by a farmer in the spring of 1945.
• The mason's fountain: Located on a dirt road between the communes of Vétrigne and Offemont, about 100 m from the road, this source supplied drinking water to the workers working in the quarries and those who built the houses.
• The laundry: It is located in front of the dirt road, at the edge of the road.
• The tree of liberty: In May 1790, a republican parish priest, Father Robert Pressac, planted a tree of liberty near his church in Saint-Gaudens and declared before his gathered flock. "At the foot of this tree, you will remember that you are French, and, in your old age, will remind your children of the memorable time to which you planted it." Thus took root the first tree of Liberty. On March 21, 1989, more than ten thousand towns celebrated the Bicentennial very ecologically, by planting mostly linden trees. In Offemont, the plantation of a lime tree took place in the presence of the local councilors and with the participation of schoolchildren. In 2009, the tree was felled during the creation of the roundabout Place Jean Moulin. In 2016, to reconnect with this republican tradition, a tree of freedom, a lime tree, was planted on March 17, around the roundabout Berthie Albrecht.
• Two sandstone road crosses: Two old crosses were moved to the cemetery and highlighted. The cross of St Guérin or St Augustin (opinions diverge), which dates from 1716, was initially located at the crossroads of Aristide Briand Street and Eygras Street. The cross representing a scene of the nativity, dating from 1712, which was at the Soiras is a copy of the cross located in the church.
• The old monument to the dead: In the cemetery, is the old monument to the dead.
• The Gallo-Roman remains: the Fanum. This small rectangular temple dates from the Roman period (1st century). Its sandstone foundations can be seen from Rue Aristide Briand, near the war memorial. The Fanum was located along the access road to the Roman villa of Offemont, which was behind the district of Barracks at a place called "Ballon". In the center of the cella, central part of the Fanum, offerings were made to the gods that the "Offemontois" Gallo-Roman worshiped.
• The monument to the dead: The site of the war memorial, located along the street Aristide Briand, near the Arsot wood, was chosen after a cooperation between elected officials and veterans. This granite wall bears the name of the Offemontois, who died for France, during the wars of 1914-1918, 1939-1945, the wars of Indochina and Algeria. It also bears the names of the men of the commandos, who died in the field of honor for the freedom of Belfort and its surroundings, on November 20, 21 and 22, 1944, as well as the missing soldiers.
• The stele of Dr. Pierre: Located near the monument to the dead, the stele of Dr. Pierre was erected to replace the tomb-stele in the wood of Arsot and bearing the inscription: "Here wanted to rest Dr. Pierre (1917-1985) in memory of his comrades of the 3rd commando of Africa fallen to the wood of Arsot 22-11-1944 ". This inscription has been postponed on the new stele.
• The stele of the Commandos of Africa and Provence: Located in front of the Post Office, this stele was erected in commemoration of the 40 Officers, NCOs and volunteers of the Group of Commandos of Africa and Provence, fallen in the battle of November 20 to 23, 1944 at Offemont.
• Honey: Honey is located rue des Eygras at the edge of the urban area and the natural area. Its elongated shape, slightly sloping roof, terraces reveal the hills of Miotte, Salbert, Rudolph, the pastures and fields, the roofs of the village and the bell tower of the church. The commune of Offemont obtained, in 2003, the first architecture prize of Franche-Comté for its realization. Its architect Philippe Jean was able to mix purity of the lines, functionality, conviviality of the places, opening on the outside and perfect integration in the environment.
• The big book of the time: Located in the hall of the Honey, this sculpture was realized by the artist Nisa Chevènement in 2008.
• Many walks or bike rides can be discovered at Offemont. In particular the walk of the Cherry Fields.

Throughout the year, the animations follow one another and touch all the fields: health, sports, culture, music, etc.

The communal life is punctuated by many events (Feast of the Commune, Christmas Market, Township Market, Garage sales, Open Scene, St. Nicholas, Taste Party, Egg Hunt, "Celebrate your games"...).
