Things to see and do

The capital of the Perche still possesses a significant architectural and historical heritage appeals to all its visitors.

Built in the year 1040, the St. John Castle overlooks the particular drive from Chartres to Le Mans. Today it is one of the oldest still standing towers in the country. Top 35 meters, it has undergone changes over the twelfth, thirteenth, fifteenth, sixteenth and seventeenth centuries. Via its 155 steps, it is connected to the famous district of Paty where you can admire mansions dating from the Renaissance. Since 1959, the castle houses the municipal museum Nogent-le-Rotrou. This is the opportunity to admire a collection of detailed history of the castle, as well as temporary exhibitions and objects recalling the life of the Perche in the nineteenth century.

Located in the heart of downtown, the Hotel Dieu was founded in 1182 and now houses the tomb of Sully, overlooked sculptures in a mausoleum slated. Also note the presence of a statue of Paul Deschanel or local poet Rémy Belleau.

Built in the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries, the St. Lawrence Church was once intended for lay people. If the exterior has a very sober aspect, its interior offers a wealth in terms of furniture, like a Entombment fifteenth century. Nearby, the Saint-Hilaire church is the oldest in the city, despite some changes during the sixteenth century.

There are still buildings of the former Saint-Denis priory built in the twelfth century. Redeemed by the city, they house including the house of Justice and Nogent-le-Rotrou Law.

Events and festivities

Historically, the city of Nogent-le-Rotrou enjoys great animation, particularly through different cultural events.

Nogent-le-Rotrou hosts two weekly markets, both on Saturday morning on the Place Saint-Pol or the square of 11 August 1944. In July, the city also offers a very interesting night market.

Every year since 2002, the Ascension weekend was the scene of Percheval, the Percheron horse festival. The program includes shows and activities on the theme of the Middle Ages and Renaissance, and a market with the products of local artisans.

In July, up Green Tea Festival. This rock music festival is the opportunity to attend numerous concerts of local and national groups in a charged atmosphere.
